After answering the open call for artworks to be featured at the major NFT event in New York – NFT.NYC – HanZzzel sensed a flicker of possibility: Could his artwork really be shown on a Times Square billboard again?
The organizers had announced an exciting twist. Not only would selected artworks be displayed at the gallery space within the NFT.NYC venue at Times Square, but a chosen few would also light up one of the most iconic billboard walls on Broadway. Every year, NFT.NYC invests over $500,000 in Times Square’s massive digital canvases, showcasing more than 100 artists during the event week – a powerful statement of digital art’s place in the public realm.
And yes – it happened again.
HanZzzel’s work was selected for the billboard exhibition, for the second time. This time, two of his pieces lit up Times Square: “Glowing Flag” from the Neo Yuppie collection, and the concept artwork “Neon Undead (ObEy Agile Iteration)”. Both were shown in June during the event.
To bring artists and visitors even closer to the moment, the organizers hosted a special gathering at the Marriott Hotel – directly across from the billboard. It became a live showcase of sorts, where digital art erupted into public space and was celebrated collectively in real time.
Though HanZzzel couldn’t attend in person, he joined the celebration virtually – on X – alongside a global community of NFT collectors and art lovers.
“It feels a little crazy to sit in front of your laptop in Austria and watch your artwork lighting up New York,” HanZzzel shared. “But this is what it’s about – new ways of sharing art, reaching broader audiences, and breaking into public spaces. It’s not just part of the performance – it’s part of our mission.”
