Geocaching + StreetArt = Hidden Galleries

Across the world, you’ll find small artistic interventions: miniature sculptures, mysterious symbols, strange figures or secret messages – some hidden in plain sight, others more carefully tucked away. Each one is a so-called Pannonian Horcrux – and you’re invited to find them.

But this isn’t just a street art series. Hidden Galleries connects physical discovery with digital interaction, inviting people to explore their surroundings in a new way. Every artwork is uniquely linked to an online identity – and to the person who finds it.

With this project, we’re experimenting with urban storytelling, blockchain-inspired claiming mechanics, and the question of what it means to own a piece of art in the age of hybrid realities. Each “find” becomes part of a living archive, and every participant leaves a mark.

How It Works

1. Discover

Start your journey via the online overview page or use the interactive map to search for artworks in your area. Each piece comes with a preview image and an approximate location.

2. Scan the Claim Link

Once you’ve found an artwork in real life, you’ll notice a small NFC tag or QR code attached to it. Simply hold your phone close to the tag or scan the code – and you’ll be redirected to a personalized claim page for that artwork.

3. Claim it

On the claim page, you can officially claim the artwork. Enter your name (real or fictional) and your email address if you like – this will:
– Add you to the public high score list
– Allow us to contact you if relevant (e.g., follow-ups for story-based pieces)

4. You’re the New Owner

Once claimed, the piece is yours to take home. Some artworks are part of larger collections, interactive stories, or connected to digital extensions – which you can explore directly from the artwork’s detail page.

We ask that if you do find and take a piece, please make sure to claim it – so others know it’s no longer out there. This helps keep the project fair and fun for everyone.

More Than Just a Game

Hidden Galleries is a playful intersection of digital art, public space, and urban exploration. It encourages people to see their surroundings differently – and to leave behind subtle digital traces in the process.

Each artwork is unique.
Each claim is a small adventure.
And now, you’re part of it.
